Gateway Login

Summary

Gateway is St. Mary's University's web portal for students, faculty, and staff. It provides a single sign-on location for campus news, apps, email, calendar, and other university services. This article explains how to log into Gateway for the first time, what to do if you forget your password, and how to set up account recovery so you never get locked out.

Other Login Options

Below the sign-in fields on the Gateway login screen, you'll find three additional links for account access:

  • Account Activation — for new users signing in for the very first time.
  • Forgot Password — for users who don't remember their password and need to recover access.
  • Reset Password — for users who know their current password but want to change it or set up account recovery/security options.

Each option is explained in detail below.

Setting Up Account Recovery

Account Recovery Settings determine how you'll verify your identity if you ever need to use the Forgot Password or Reset Password features. Setting these up in advance is the best way to avoid getting locked out of your account.

From this screen, you can configure:

  • Security Questions* — Choose and answer three questions. Answers should be easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. (Required)
  • Email Recovery* — Add a personal email address (not your @stmarytx.edu or @mail.stmarytx.edu address) to receive verification codes. (Required)
  • Phone Recovery  — Add a 10-digit mobile number to receive verification codes via text.
  • YubiKey Recovery, Authenticator, Mobile Push, and Passkeys — Additional optional verification methods.

Note: Complete at least the required Security Questions and Email Recovery, then click Submit. When finished, click Continue to Gateway to return to the portal.
